How to find The Bower and the Bothy at Hill Barn, Uplyme

This link goes to the MultiMap site for a scalable local road map. (Please note: if you ask for a route, the last few steps in the online directions are wrong; Hill Barn is approached from Gore Lane, not Cannington Lane. MultiMap has been notified, but has done nothing to fix this.)

If you get lost, please call us (01297 445185) for emergency directions!

Local directions:

By road from the A35:

  • The A35 is the main route between Dorchester and Honiton.
  • Turn off it, towards Lyme Regis, at the Hunters' Lodge crossroads. Follow the B3165 through Yawl, and enter Uplyme from the north.
  • In the village, pass the Village Hall on your right, and look for the Talbot Arms pub on your left, after about 50 yards.
  • Turn right up Gore Lane opposite the pub, and follow it out of the village for 7/10 of a mile.
  • At the top of the hill, after 50 yards you will see our drive on the right: look for the white signs. Hill Barn is the third and last house at the end of the gravel drive.

By road from Lyme Regis:

  • Leave Lyme via Pound Street, signposted Sidmouth and Seaton (A3052).
  • About 200 yards after the Devon sign, turn right towards Uplyme at Ware Cross. Look for the row of trees that mark our drive.
  • Turn left up the drive; Hill Barn is the third and last house at the end of the gravel drive.

Parking when you arrive

There is plenty of space to park in front of Hill Barn. When you arrive, just park where you find a space, and we'll sort you out once you've settled in.

By public transport:

Axminster station is 6 miles away. Regular train service from London Waterloo on the South West Trains Exeter line. Timetable information is available at the National Rail site.

From the station, the hourly Service 31 bus (First Southern National) serves Uplyme and connects with the trains - ask to alight at the Talbot Arms which is about 15 minutes (uphill!) from us; we can usually arrange to collect you by prior arrangement, or use Males Taxis at the station, 01297 34000.

The Jurassic CoastlinX (X53) bus service runs regularly from Exeter to Weymouth, and stops about 5 minutes level walk from us; ask to alight at Ware Cross.

Online bus timetables can be found on the Traveline South West web site. Both services run modern fully-accessible vehicles; the X53 is a double-decker and gives wonderful views across the countryside and coast.

We welcome all our guests, however they get here - cyclists, walkers and motorcyclists, as well as motorists.
